Architectural Inventories and Surveys

Architectural inventories and surveys involve systematically documenting historic buildings, structures, and districts through on-site fieldwork. We photograph properties, capture architectural details, assess building conditions, and create resource forms to record historical significance. This process supports preservation planning, informs National Register evaluations, and aids in cultural resource management for municipalities, state agencies, and private clients. Our surveys often include both rural and urban settings, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of a community’s historic fabric.

Clifton Historic Resources has completed multiple architectural inventories and surveys, covering thousands of resources across multiple states, as well as numerous surveys within broader cultural resource projects.

Recent large scale surveys include Columbia Historic Inventory, Maury County, Tennessee (2024), which included 504 resources, for Chronicle Heritage and the City of Columbia, and Hillcrest National Register Historic District Re-Survey, Pulaski County, Arkansas, which included 379 resources, for Chronicle Heritage and the City of Little Rock.
